Dangote Cement Tanzania, the largest cement factory in Tanzania, commissioned its 3.0Mta plant in Mtwara in December 2015. The factory is located about 400km from Dar es Salaam and has an estimated 500 million tonnes of limestone reserves, enough for 149 years. The plant is capable of producing large amounts of high-quality 32.5 and 42.5 grade cements that meet the needs of local and export markets at competitive prices.
Tanzania has a population of approximately 42 million, with a per-capita cement consumption of around 50kg per annum, which is below the global average and low even for Africa. However, the country’s economy is expected to grow at an estimated 7.0% over the next five years, driven by the manufacturing, mining, and tourism sectors. This improving economic performance has led to strong growth in cement demand, and the prospects remain favorable, given the linear relationship between economic growth and cement consumption.
